3. QUESTION: First time visiting a urologist?Hey all.

   Next Monday I’ll be seeing a urologist for the first time (the only one in town). I have been suffering with chronic epdidymitis for the past eight months. It started when I got a yeast infection on my penis (yes, apparently men can get yeast infections). I treated the yeast infection but about a week later my right testicle really started to hurt.

   Over the months the pain has gradually lessened, but still is quite a burden on my life. also, about four months ago my left testicle also began to hurt. I returned to the doctor and asked if maybe there was still some kind of infection, bacterial, fungal, yeast etc. He told me it was unlikely but not impossible. He prescribed me Meloxicam which is supposed to help with inflammation but really doesn’t do anything for me. I’ve switched from the Meloxicam back to ibuprofen because it’s more effective but I worry about the damage I could be doing by taking so much ibuprofen for so long. I take about 1,600 mg a day which is technically an overdose but it’s just about the only way I can get through my day without every moment being dominated by testicle pain.

   My doctor has not offered me any kind of pain medication and seems to be treating the epididymitis like tennis elbow or something similar. Kind of like, “it won’t kill you, sorry it sucks, just deal with it”. It’s really frustrating because, as I explained to my doctor, this isn’t my elbow, it’s my testicles.    • ANSWER: Are you certain you have epididymitis? If the pain is in both testicles, and especially if it seems to alternate between them, I think you might have prostatodynia instead. Prostatodynia is pain originating in the prostate gland. It is usually caused by ejaculating too much or not enough. It is better for your prostate gland for your ejaculations to be regular. (I.e., if you’re going to ejaculate 7 times a week, do it once a day instead of zero for five days and then three times on Friday and four times on Saturday.)
